UPDATE FROM THE

OHIO CAMPAIGN TO PROTECT MARRIAGE

October 1, 2004

Marriage Protection Amendment certified to the Ohio ballot!

Secretary of State Ken Blackwell has confirmed that a sufficient number of signatures have been validated and officially placed Issue 1 on the ballot on September 29.

Thanks to thousands of citizens across the state, the Ohio Campaign to Protect Marriage submitted a total of 557,085 signatures on petitions. The final number of valid signatures has not been confirmed.

But even with the many who were not registered to vote when they signed the petition or the loss of signatures on petitions which were invalidated for one reason or another, more than the minimum necessary - 322,899 - have been approved by the County Boards of Election.

Predictably, opponents are asking a court to remove Issue 1 from the ballots. The case is expected to be briefed and possibly argued before the Ohio Supreme Court by mid-October. Please be in prayer over this critical situation.

Coming next week...

What you can do to insure that Issue 1 - the Marriage Protection Amendment  - passes in Ohio. The Ohio Campaign to Protect Marriage is preparing a grassroots campaign that will require every volunteer to make every contact possible. If executed properly, we can't help but win!

Double-Check Voter Registrations

Just in case it has slipped anyone's attention lately, CCV is reminding everyone that Monday, October 4 is the last day you can register to vote in Ohio and nearly every other state in the nation.

Below, you will find a link to an article by WCPO/Channel 9 which highlights the need to double-check new registrations. If you have recently registered to vote, please read this article and then contact your County Board of Elections to verify that you are properly registered and will be eligible to vote on November 2.

You can click here to find the contact information for each County Board. Be aware that some Boards provide a website for you to search for your name but the info you key must match exactly what what they have in their system.

If you helped register others, you would do well to encourage them to verify their registration as well.
